Slovakia bans Muslim migrants because country has no mosques – they will ONLY take in Christian refugees

Migrants crisis: Slovakia 'will only accept Christians' - BBC News

OFFICIALS in Slovakia are refusing Muslim migrants because they claim that they have no mosques.

The country is due to accept 200 asylum seekers under EU resettlement plans – but all of them are Christians who have been persecuted in Syria.

Slovakia’s interior ministry has said it will turn away Muslims because they will struggle to fit in if they have nowhere to worship.

Spokesman Ivan Metik said: “We could take 800 Muslims but we don’t have any mosques in Slovakia so how can Muslims be integrated if they are not going to like it here?”

Last month, EU member states agreed to take in more than 32,000 refugees with plans to offer a further 7,000 places by the end of the year.

It is hoped that the pledge will quell the growing influx of asylum seekers flooding Europe.
A record 110,000 migrants entered the EU last month – with Germany warned to expect 750,000 refugees this year.

But the UK is not part of the quota as it is exempt from the agreement.

Mr Metik added: “We want to really help Europe with this migration wave but we are only a transit country and the people don’t want to stay in Slovakia.”

EU officials hit back at the Slovakian plans and one source revealed that they could be open to legal challenges.

A European Commission spokesman said: “We act here in the spirit of the treaty, which prevents any form of discrimination.”

And Babar Baloch of the United Nations refugee agency added: “Resettlement is greatly needed for many refugees who are at extreme risk among the world’s most vulnerable groups.
