TEXAS TEEN HERO: Taking on Both Coronavirus and Prejudice by Donating Masks

Face Mask on Blue Background

Valerie Xu from Texas was fed up with the injustice facing people of Asian descent amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Phrases like “Chinese virus” or “Wuhan virus” are generalizing and insulting, but instead of complaining about it on Facebook, this 15-year-old decided to do something about it.
Xu started a GoFundMe page and managed to raise enough to buy 11,200 masks. She then donated them to the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
But the brilliant teen’s donation comes with a message – stop discriminating against Asians! While the coronavirus’ starting point was China, there is no single reason to blame anyone you see on the street – it’s racist and unacceptable!
With the focus being on celebrities’ and billionaires’ donations, this young girl is doing her best to make a significant change in her society.
The 15-year-old Texan has demonstrated you don’t need billions, nor celebrity status to help people and make a positive contribution.

As the old adage goes – where there’s a will, there’s a way!
