UK’s largest paper characterizes Muslim convert as “reverting” to Islam

A hadith depicts Muhammad as saying: “No babe is born but upon Fitra (as a Muslim). It is his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian or a Polytheist.” (Sahih Muslim 6426)
So it is Islamic doctrine that everyone is born Muslim, and that people who convert to Islam are “reverting,” that is, returning to their original religion, rather than adopting a new one.
So when Metro says that Lisa Mercedez has “reverted” to Islam, it is assuming the Islamic view that all people are originally Muslim.
